Begin your 4-day Fes to Marrakech desert trip with a morning pickup from your Fes hotel or riad. Depart the city and go to Ifrane, where you may take a quick 15-minute break and possibly have a cup of coffee before continuing on to the cedar forest of Azrou in the Middle Atlas Mountains. You may be able to see barbary monkeys here.
Drive to Merzouga via Midelt and the Ziz Valley (a valley filled with palm trees). Arrive at Merzouga in the afternoon and spend the night in a magnificent riad with views of the town's golden sand dunes.
Your day of sightseeing in the Merzouga desert will start with a lovely breakfast at your riad. The little hamlet of Khamlia will be your first stop, where natives who originally migrated from South Africa play a distinctive kind of music known as Gnawa. Next, you'll embark on an off-road journey to M'Fis, an abandoned settlement home to Galena mines that once produced Mascara.
You will also be able to learn about the nomadic lifestyle of a family that lives behind the Erg Chebbi Dunes near the border while sipping tea in one of their traditional Berber tents. This ethnic group has decided to live a totally different existence away from society, and learning about their customs is interesting.
In the afternoon, prepare for an amazing camel ride across Merzouga's high dunes to your desert tent. On the way, you will stop at a high dune to sandboard while admiring the beautiful sunset. After supper, you may relax around a campfire beneath the stars while the camp staff plays drums and cheerfully teaches you how to play them. Enjoy a fantastic night.
We strongly recommend getting up early today to enjoy a beautiful dawn. After that, have a delicious breakfast at your desert camp.
Next, you'll take a delightful road trip to Dades Gorge, passing via Rissani, Erfoud, Tinghir, and Todra Gorge along the way. If today is a market day in Rissani (Sunday, Tuesday, or Thursday), you may go to a typical Moroccan market. It is an excellent cultural experience that will give you an insight into the local way of life. This is where you may find local handicrafts, spices, and street cuisine that are not readily available elsewhere. There will be several pauses along the trip to capture fascinating photos and learn about the locals and their customs.
Travel to Dades Gorge in the afternoon for your overnight stay. Dinner and stay at your hotel.
After a delicious breakfast at your hotel, you'll be able to explore the region. Then, take the 1000 Kasbahs route to Ouarzazate. You may explore the Atlas Studios or just take some shots outdoors. Ait Ben Hadou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has served as the shooting location for numerous notable films such as Gladiator, Prince of Persia, and the television series Game of Thrones.
After a delicious lunch, continue your trip to Marrakech over the breathtaking High Atlas Mountains. You will travel through many lovely Moroccan Berber communities. You will make many stops along the route. Your 4-day trip from Fes to Marrakech will conclude with a drop-off at your hotel in Marrakech, leaving you feeling enriched by the experience.
